Renewable Energy Training Courses
Trade Training offer a range of renewable energy training courses for individuals looking for professional training as a renewable energy engineer.
We offer the following renewable energy training courses:
Solar Hot Water
The market for trained solar domestic hot water installers is growing. This particular BPEC renewable energy training course has been developed in conjunction with the Solar Trade Association (STA), the UK trade association for solar water heating systems. This renewable energy training course is aimed at already qualified or experienced domestic heating engineers and plumbers. The length of this renewable energy training course is usually 2 days including theory, practical and assessment.
The BPEC Solar Hot Water course provides the knowledge on how to install a solar domestic hot water system. The course takes into consideration the majority of systems installed in the UK investigating the different system configurations, components and operating characteristics. The course targets aspects which are particular to solar domestic hot water systems giving operatives the confidence to select, install and maintain systems. The course is not intended for those without any experience of heating or plumbing installation experience.
There is a strong focus on promoting the use of renewable energies in the UK currently. Solar water heating is on an upward growth curve and plumbing operatives are having to respond to an increase in demand from environmentally and economically conscious consumers. BPEC has responded to the market demand for training on domestic solar hot water heating technologies with its new training manual.
Installers who successfully complete the BPEC Domestic Solar Hot Water Heating training course become eligible for inclusion on the Clear Skies installers list. The Clear Skies scheme, originally administered by BRE and through which funding could be accessed for solar heating installations, has been superseded by the DTI’s low carbon buildings programme (LCBP). The LCBP is managed by the Energy Savings Trust (EST) and BPEC’s Domestic Solar Hot Water Heating course is the only one to be recognised by the EST for which householders can draw funding for new installations.
Course Content:
- Module 1: Introduction to Domestic Solar Hot Water
- Module 2: Solar Collectors
- Module 3: Hot Water Storage and Installation bases
- Module 4: Preparing to install a Solar hot water system
- Module 5: Fitting of solar collectors
- Module 6: Plumbing layout
- Module 7: Control and Power Requirements
- Module 8: System commissioning
Why Solar Hot Water
With energy prices rising so much in recent months many more households are choosing to opt for alternative energy sources. The BPEC Solar Installer Certificate allows you to register as an approved solar installer with the energy saving trust (CLEAR SKIES). Domestic solar hot water systems that are installed by an approved solar installer allow the customer to claim £400 back from the government in the form of a rebate grant. Only approved solar installers such as those of the BPEC scheme can get the grant for their customers. The course is accredited by the CLEAR SKIES government grant program.
Underfloor Heating
Underfloor Heating is a new renewable energy training course accredited by BPEC. This is only renewable energy training course which has been developed with and approved by the Underfloor Heating Manufactures Association (UHMA).
Course modules:
- Explain the basic principles of warm water underfloor heating (UFH) systems
- State the advantages of UFH systems
- Identify the design conditions and relevant standards appropriate with UFH systems
- Carry out heat loss calculations
- Describe the floor systems and finishes associated with UHF systems
- State the various UFH systems types of the market
- Explain the operation of UFH systems and components
- Carry out UFH system design using worksheets, including working on a project building
